Biography

Hong Kong artist Kary Kwok (b. 1964, lives and works in Hong Kong and London) works between photography, installation, and fashion. Since receiving his M.A. in photography from the Royal College of Arts in London, his work has engaged with the perceptions and demands put on marginalised bodies and subjectivities by normative society. Associated with the Black Arts Movement, he has since collaborated with a number of artists including Sonia Boyce, Hiriam To, and Franko B. He was a prize winner of the 1994 Southbank Photo Show in London and was the artist-in-residence at the Rupertinum in Museum der Moderne Salzburg, where he was subsequently the subject of a solo exhibition titled “I am not what I am.”
