Inter-island Sea is the conjunction of Hong Kong Island, Kowlarguably the geographical centre of Hong Kong.  However, the sea has never had a name, except its Southeastern side being the Lamma Channels. I decide to name this sea the Inter-island Sea (after the Inter-island Ferry) and gather information about this sea to draw a map.The land has always been the centre while the sea and islands are the peripheries, a subordinate void free for exploitation.   The same centre/periphery relationship can be seen in city/rural and human/nature.  What insights will we gain by switching the positions of the centre and the periphery, or even erasing these distinctions?  This is the awakening I hope to bring.  

離島海是香港、九龍和新界交匯的水域，地理上可謂香港的中心。離島海卻一直未有正式名稱，只有其東南面名為「西博寮海峽」。有見及此，我決定為將此海名為「離島海」，並將關於離島海的各類資料，化為此地圖。人素以陸地和大陸為中心，視海洋和島嶼為邊陲，任意掠奪它們的領域，破壞其生態。同樣的中心/邊陲（主/副）關係，亦見於城市/鄉郊與人/自然。要是將邊陲平等看待，甚或將主/副消磨，人可會對自己與環境的關係重新理解？這是我希望得到的「覺醒」。

Yip Kai Chun is an artist-curator born and based in Hong Kong. Neglected history, culture and language of the localities are at the core of his research-based creations, which favour the components of sound, language (spoken & written) and found objects.  His involvement in several socially-engaged projects in recent years has nurtured his interest in the potentials of community, collective action, art and creativity. Yip is currently studying for the Certificate Programme of The New Centre for Research and Practice, USA. He currently lives on Peng Chau.

葉啟俊是位藝術家、策展人，於香港出生、成長，現居坪洲。葉氏的藝術創作，多以被忽視的本地歷史、文化和語言為主旨，當中常見聲音、物件、言語和文字的原素。近年，葉氏參與了好幾個社區藝術計劃，令他確信社羣、集體行動和藝術創意的潛能，並決定在往後的計劃中多加實踐。他現正於The New Centre for Research and Practice就讀證書課程。
